I wanted to be sure and share with you a few images of these fabulous green + orange pinwheels I made for a Seattle area wedding this summer. The pinwheels were used in the centerpieces for the reception tables. My client chose the 11” medium size pinwheel modified slightly by adding a longer dowel. They then added a little flag label to each pinwheel to distinguish the different table names. I don’t know who to credit for the adorable little wedding favors, but I had to include a photo of such a sweet idea. The hanging flower balls are so gorgeous too!

I recently had the privilege of custom designing these fun pinwheels for a vintage carnival theme party. What a fun + simple parade of pattern combinations I had to work with. I loved seeing details of all sizes throughout the event; all the way down to the lollies.

My husband (Shannon) turned 40 on 3/23 and I wanted to do something special for him. He’s not much into big crowds or large parties, so we kept it simple and invited family over for a tradition of corned beef & cabbage dinner. I sought the help of Laura, over at Eye Candy Event Details for many of the party elements including the cake toppers, candy wrappers and custom poster. Since Shannon works as the Creative Director of our design & photography studio, I thought it would be fun to have some graphics designed just for him. Laura understood what I was asking for and delivered in a very timely manner. She was a joy to work with and really helped me set the scene for this St. Patty’s day theme 40th birthday dinner. I made the pinwheels for the centerpieces (of course!). I found those cute little pots at Target and the Shamrock felt stickers in the dollar bin at Joann’s. I filled the pots with wrapped candy and they made the best centerpieces. 3 small pinwheels per pot & I used 2 pots on my table. The banner was simple & fun to make. I used Heat N’ Bond to adhere it to the cording along with embroidering around the 4 & 0 to give it a finished look. All week long before the party I would reveal a new birthday decor element to Shannon (such as the hanging of the banner or the placement of the framed poster). All in all it was a very special & relaxed birthday celebration. Which basically sums up my dear Shannon’s character as well. Sweet. Uncomplicated. Loved.

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of meeting Jenn, of Jennifer Morrow Photography. She is a splendid person to interact with; I instantly felt like I had known her for years. Her photography skills speak for themselves throughout every photo. I love the way she captured the pinwheels in the different environments. So artistically crisp. It was a beautiful day when the packages arrived. I had been anticipating them for a while. Vintage family treasures. You know how that is. The joy and mysterious excitement of the unknown contents. I knew they were old. Some older than others. I knew they had belonged to my grandmother. I knew they were saved out especially for me. When I pulled them out of the mail box and put them in the car I heard a rattle. I hoped and prayed and told myself it couldn’t be. I brought them in the house with eager anticipation. As I pulled back the corrugated flaps my fears were confirmed. I was destroyed. Shattered & broken glass everywhere. I wept. I fumbled through the mess, imagining what the glass dishes had looked like before they were reduced to ruins. I couldn’t really think straight the rest of the day. I managed to get the camera out and capture a few images. I believe now it was part of the healing process. A few days later I was at the Farmers Market on Lopez Island. My dear friend introduced me to a mosaic artist who generously gave me some pointers and ideas on how to upcycle my treasured crumbs. I’m grateful and excited. Though I would have preferred to place them on display in their original form. I’ll look forward in anticipation of what they shall become. In the meantime, I do have many special treasures that did survive. Including over a dozen hand crocheted doilies, beautiful vases, various kitchen items and lovely Christmas decorations that I look forward to incorporating into this years holiday decor.
